On October 4, 2016, Regent Mary Ellen welcomed Daughters of Isabella Circle 638 members and guests to a potluck supper. Guests were Elizabeth Long, Karen Poulin, Diana Poulin and Nicole Libby.
Tina Sirois and guest Diana Poulin were recognized with a small gift for having birthdays; members sang “Happy Birthday.”
The 50/50 draw of $13.50 was won by guest Elizabeth Long; she returned the amount to the circle. Regent Mary Ellen led the blessing before the meal and a tasty meal and social ensued.
Opening prayer was led by Acting Chancellor Priscilla Foley, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Draping of the Charter was done for deceased sister Joan Stairs. Past Regent Gail Hjort, Vice Regent Elaine Haines and Monitor Madeline Guerrette assisted Regent Mary Ellen. All sang “Oh What Could My Jesus Do More.”
Roll call of officers was taken and the secretary’s report accepted as read. The Regent highlighted correspondence from International; the next international convention will be held in Montreal Aug. 6-8, 2018.
Past Regent Gail Hjort, chairwoman of the Welfare Committee, displayed a layette worth about $100. Member Annette Damboise brought in a big bag full of supplies.
Vice Regent Elaine Haines reported cards were sent to: Nancy Saucier, Josephine St. Peter, Omerine Cyr, Theresa Ouellette and Doris Nadeau. Cards will be sent to: Sandra Gagnon, Michelle Raymond, Joan Iott, Peg Winston and Jeanine Belanger.
Past Regent Gail Hjort discussed the prayer line. Vice Regent Elaine Haines explained the 40 Week Club and informed the circle there would be a double drawing in October. Members voted to participate in the 40 Week Club.
Dolores Martin reported discount cards would be available for the November meeting.
Regent Mary Ellen talked about the new Queen Isabella Award instituted by the International Circle. A list of circle members will be presented and in November members will vote for three who are involved in both church and community.
The annual Christmas party was to be held Dec. 6; members were to bring a gift for exchange, a nonperishable item for food baskets and a gift for the Baby Jesus layettes. Nancy Saucier, Michelle Hersey and Elizabeth Long volunteered to be on the Christmas committee along with our Regent Mary Ellen.
Dolores Martin will develop a new calling committee for January. Elizabeth Long and Michelle Hersey volunteered to be on this committee also.
Members learned the long form conferral of degrees was to be held in Madawaska on Oct.15, followed by Mass and their Circle’s 85th anniversary banquet. Michelle Hersey, Mary Ellen Field and Rita Worley received their long form conferral.
This month’s refreshment committee was Debbie Chabre, Madeline Guerrette, Lou Wark and Mary Ellen Field.
