The Caribou varsity basketball teams are coming off a tough stretch involving a lot of traveling and they will be back on the road again this weekend.
Due to the snowstorm late last week which postponed the Vikings’ scheduled overnight trip to play MDI and Ellsworth Thursday and Friday, Caribou instead drove to Bar Harbor and back on Saturday to meet up against MDI and then returned to Hancock County Monday to take on Ellsworth.
The Viking teams were swept in all four games. On Saturday, the girls were beaten by the Trojans, 57-49. Gabrielle Marquis had 19 points and Rachel Soucy and Maddie Doucette 10 apiece in the loss. The boys were trounced by MDI, 67-28. Tharen Hand and Parker Deprey paced Caribou with eight points each.
On Monday, the Caribou boys were outscored 17-7 in the third quarter as Ellsworth came from behind for a 52-49 victory. Alex Bouchard fired in 16 points and Austin Findlen provided a season-high 14 for the Vikes. In the girls’ matchup, Caribou was beaten by a score of 53-43. Marquis again led the attack for coach Ryan Deprey’s Vikings with 20 points and Soucy contributed nine.
The Viking boys are now 2-5 and in 12th place in the Heal Point standings for the Class B North division. Caribou was scheduled to host Fort Kent tonight and will be at Orono to take on the Red Riots Saturday afternoon.
The Caribou girls are 1-6 and in 16th place in the Class B North standings. The team hosts Fort Kent Thursday before traveling to play Orono Saturday.
In other action this past week, the LCS/MSSM squads were idle, but the Fort Fairfield girls were able to pick up their second win of the season Monday by besting Washburn in a road contest, 50-28. Cammi King-DeMerchant and Riley Clough scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Tigers and Kassie Farley totaled 13 to lead Washburn. Shead had beaten Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, 63-22, while Washburn dropped a 47-40 decision against Central Aroostook.
In boys’ play, Hodgdon knocked off Washburn last Tuesday, 70-56, while Fort Fairfield dominated Central Aroostook the following evening, 60-38.
