WOODLAND, Maine — The town of Woodland is preparing for the new year, and will be holding a meeting to discuss the budget on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the town office.
Administrative Assistant and Tax Collector Amber Moutinho says that, until this initial budget meeting, it will be difficult to determine what next year’s budget will look like.
Additionally, the town is seeking one new selectman and two school board members, each for a three-year term. Nomination papers are currently available at the town office, located on 843 Woodland Center Road, and need to be returned by Feb. 3.
Once the nomination papers are returned, the town will hold a municipal election on March 20th, and then hold an official town meeting on the following day in the school gymnasium.
Last year, Woodland residents passed every item on the budget with the exception of an ordinance that would enforce weight restrictions for posted roads. Since this item was rejected by Woodland citizens in 2015 and 2016, Moutinho says it will likely not be brought to the town next year.
