CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou police responded to a 6:40 p.m. call on New Year’s Day regarding a stolen car, and another 8:20 p.m. call about a stolen snowsled, subsequently finding that one individual was responsible for both incidents.

According to Caribou PD, 23-year-old Nathan Morrow of Caribou is allegedly responsible for a stolen VW Jetta and 2006 Yamaha snowmobile.

The first caller, who owned the Jetta, said she watched her car drive out of a parking lot by the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Officer Wilcox found the vehicle traveling north on U.S.Route 1, at which point it turned on to Washington Street and the driver ditched the vehicle.

Officer Marquis then found Morrow on Vaughn Street, covered in snow, and arrested him.

Police were able to tie Morrow to the stolen snowsled on Jan. 2, when they found the machine stuck off a trail near the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Officer Ouellette then tied sneaker tracks near the abandoned sled back to Morrow, who was already in custody.

Morrow was charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated unauthorized use of property, violation of conditional release, and operating while under the influence.

Caribou PD adds that Morrow, along with another unnamed male from Caribou, was previously charged and convicted for similar offenses in May of 2014, in which vehicles from the Caribou and Presque Isle area were stolen and wrecked.

As of Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, Morrow is being held at the Caribou Police station and will be sent to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton later that day. His bail is set at $5,000 cash or $20,000 double surety, and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.
