On Monday, Feb. 20, Allen Salo, president of the Mapleton Lions Club, presented two awards for Lion of the Year.

Lion of the Year is given to a member who demonstrates outstanding service on club projects and activities as judged by the club president.

Salo recognized Dale McHatten with the 2015 Lion of the Year Award,  for his work on every project undertaken by the club during the year and additional work in the maintenance of the Mapleton Lions Hall. McHatten is the longest enrolled member in the club at 55 years, and is the only club member to receive Lions Clubs International’s highest recognition, the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

Adam Nicak earned the Lion of the Year Award for 2016. Both Salo and Frank Richards, immediate past president, agreed Nicak had been a very active and hardworking member last year. He worked the Mapleton Lions Club Auction, chicken barbecue, Maple Meadow Farm Fest, Crown of Maine Balloon Fest and several work sessions at the Lions Hall.

The club congratulated McHatten and Nicak  for their work through the Mapleton Lions Club to benefit the community.
