On Friday, March 10, the Easton Winter Carnival will feature a family night, complete with pizza party, bounce house, inflated slide and live music with Heath Bartley from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pizza, chips and soda will be served. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of food.
On the morning of Saturday, March 11, there will be sliding on Kinney Hill from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. Concessions will be sold by Easton Kiwanis. Bring your own sled. There will be a community potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. For entertainment, the 5 and 6 teams will take on their parents at 6:15 and 7 p.m. in the gym.
On Sunday, March 12, activities will include snowshoeing at the Science Center at 2 p.m. Please come a bit early if you need to borrow snowshoes, or bring your own. That evening the Wesleyan Church will host a free community spaghetti supper from 4 to 6 p.m. at the hall. All are invited to attend.
Geography Bee finalist
GEO BEE — Jenna Cochran, a sixth grader at Easton Elementary School, is a semifinalist in the 2017 Maine National Geographic State Bee, to be held March 31. She resides in Easton with her grandparents, Faith and Steven Cochran.

Jenna Cochran, a sixth-grader at Easton Elementary School, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that she is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2017 Maine National Geographic State Bee, to be held on Friday, March 31.
Cochran resides in Easton with her grandparents, Faith and Steven Cochran.
This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 29th year. School Bees were held in schools with grades 4-8 students throughout the state to determine each school champion. School champions then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The society names up to 100 top scorers in each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and U.S. territories to compete in the state bees.
Each state champion will receive $100, the National Geographic Concise Atlas of the World, 4th Edition, and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent their state in the National Geographic Bee Championship to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters in May, to determine the national champion.
Happy Days Update
The Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club met following a potluck luncheon on Feb. 23. Attending were Annette Copeland, Julia Allen, Marie Hewitt, Carrie Mason and Jackie Condon.
The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, in the recreation room at the Manor.
Runners-up
The Easton boys were the runners-up to Caribou in the championship game of the grades 5 and 6 NMCRA tournament, held in Caribou March 3 and 4.
Ten teams participated, from Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Washburn, Easton, Limestone, Mars Hill, Madawaska, Presque Isle, Ashland and Van Buren.
All-tournament team players selected included Evan Carver of Easton, Ben Beaulieu of Presque Isle, Sam Hebert of Van Buren, and Reece Cavagnaro and Griffen McNeal of Caribou.
Snowshoe hike
The Francis Malcolm Science Center will host a moonlight snowshoe hike Friday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m. Snowshoes are available at no charge with paid admission. Hot chocolate will be served. Reservations are required; call 488-5451 or e-mail tricia@francismalcolmsciencecenter.com. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children and $20 for a family.
Easton PTO
The Easton PTO is collecting gently used shoes for a fundraiser. It is the perfect opportunity to clean out your closet and help a good cause. You can drop your shoes off at Odd Fellows Hall, Easton Elementary School, or Easton Junior/Senior High School.
Annual pageant
The ECFP Committee has begun practice for the 2017 pageant. This is for anyone in grades Kindergarten through grade 12. To be involved, contact Taylor Burtt at 551-9492, Abby Stewart at 768-0747 or Kim Embelton at 488-4962.
School registration
Easton School Department is now accepting registration for children entering Kindergarten or pre-K in the Fall of 2017. Call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7700 as soon as possible to register your child for either of the above classes.
Community Library
The community library will be open to the community for patrons to utilize library services. This week’s dates include Wednesday, March 8, at Easton Elementary School and Saturday, March 11, at the high school.
