Nordic skiers qualify for championships

Three local skiers will represent Maine at the Eastern High School Nordic Championships, which take place in Mountain Top, Vt. March 17-19.

At the Maine Team Selection Race held March 5 at Black Mountain in Rumford, Max Bartley and Isabelle Jackson, both of Presque Isle and competing for the Outdoor Sports Institute team; and Bryce Coffin of Caribou all earned spots on the elite team.

Bartley placed 12th out of 61 in the high school boys’ classical race in 12 minutes and 51.9 seconds. Coffin took 16th in 13:07.8

Jackson came in third out of 42 in the high school girls’ classical race in 14:55.

In the freestyle pursuit, Bartley came in at 11:05.3 to finish ninth overall in the standings in 23:56.3. Coffin’s time of 11:48.6 put him in 17th in 24:55.6.

Jackson had a time of 12:59.3 in the pursuit race for a combined time of 27:54.3, good for third overall.

Caleb Brown and Alec Cyr, both of Caribou, also competed.
