March is the month for local town meetings and for town business to be attended to. Voting is a right we all have and one we certainly should exercise.
In Island Falls, Thursday, March 16, is the day for voting. The warrant is posted and available at locations in town and at the town office. The polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m at the municipal building.
Two selectman positions are open with five people running for them. Paige Coville and Dawn Merry are the incumbents, both running again. Frank Porter, Tony Bowers and Kevin Bearor have each returned papers for the positions.
Town Meeting will be on Saturday, March 18, at 2 pm.
Men’s basketball is happening at the Island Falls Municipal Building on Monday nights beginning at 6 p.m. Contact Tom Rodgerson at (207) 944-8226. Co-ed Volleyball is Tuesday evenings at 6 at the Municipal Building. Contact Ramona Conrad at 538-5580. High school youth are welcome at both these events.
Katahdin Club ladies met at Brookside Restaurant in Smyrna on Monday, March 6 for a lunch. 14 members and guests enjoyed the great food and visiting during the time they do not hold regular meetings. Present were Jeanette Hafford, Donna Grass, Paige Coville, Mary Moore, Laura Bomba, Nora Willigar, Margaret Kovalch, Marilyn Somers, Helena Porter, Bonnie McKeen, Mary Fowler, Gail Campbell, Bubbie Porter and Gloria Willigar.
A date for breakfast was set for Friday, March 31, again at the Brookside.
Henry Joy is recovering from hip replacement surgery and receiving therapy at Brewer Rehab, 74 Parkway South, Brewer, Maine 04412, room 121A. Word is that he is doing very well.
