Wilderness Walk host vets

On Saturday, March 25, Wilderness Walk for Warriors will be at the William Cousins Post 118 American Legion in Mars Hill to honor local veterans.

A luncheon will be served starting at 12 noon hosted by Post 118. Wilderness Walk for Warriors will provide thank-you boxes to area veterans and will also offer a slide show presentation of the organization’s accomplishments since their inception in the fall of 2013.

If you are planning to attend and would like a food box, please email Rod Collins at rc199@twc.com by March 21 so they can get a rough count of the number of boxes needed. You can come for the presentation and luncheon without an RSVP and get a box if there are any still available.

Stage Adventures

The Children’s Stage Adventures production of “The Elves and the Shoemaker” will be held in the Fort Street Elementary School gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17.

The play involves about 50 children in grades 2, 4 and 6, working under the direction of  CSA actor/educators Erin Grubbs and Lauren Lambert.  

The children will continue their work this week on the show in preparation for the Friday performance. All are welcome to attend.

Birthday bash

The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library in Mars Hill will host a Birthday Bash to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Saturday, March 18.

Please stop in from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to enjoy the reading of “The Lorax.” Participants will be create a Truffula tree and other crafts, as well as enjoy a birthday cake.

Library evening hours

The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library is in the midst of a trial of extended night hours through April, and will be open from 12:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If this is well received by patrons, it will become the new standard.  

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, March 7, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Rotarian Steve Hitchcock showed a slide presentation “Keeping Your Keys” and spoke about driving issues for an aging population.

He said there are classes, pamphlets and on-line aids available to help a person be more aware of changes that take place as we age. Reaction times slow down, so you need to be more aware in order to keep yourself and others safe.

Upcoming events for the week of March 15 – 21 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Fun with Jess and Devin at 9:30 a.m. and a Tea Social at 1:30 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m. and United Methodist at 6:30 p.m. Friday is St. Patrick’s Day and will feature St Patty Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and a Shamrock Shake Social at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Karaoke with The Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will have televised church available in the day room. Monday will feature Nails by Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Communion at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change.

Bingo

The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill hosts Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the post. There are cash prizes and refreshments are available.
