CARIBOU, Maine — A nor’easter predicted to hit Maine and surrounding states tonight will bring 14 to 18 inches of snow to Aroostook County, according to the National Weather Service.
Caribou Meteorologist Chris Norcross says Houlton, Caribou and Fort Kent areas will likely receive 14 to 15 inches of snow while northwest areas of Aroostook like the Allagash and North Woods will receive closer to 18 inches.
Norcross says this may be one of the bigger storms of the season for people in northwestern Maine, adding that Houlton in particular has already experienced storms like this in the season.
“Visibility will be reduced to less than a quarter mile at times with the heavier snow overnight,” Norcross said at 8:30 a.m. “The wind will be a sustained 15 to 25 miles per hours with gusts up to 35, so there could be drifts but that will happen later tonight.”
Conditions are predicted to start picking up in the late afternoon, come to a peak overnight, and then wind down in the morning.
“The worst of it is definitely going to be in the overnight hours,” Norcross said. “The storm will be winding down by 8 or 9 tomorrow morning.”
