After losing their first 14 games of the season, the UMPI baseball team is finally into the win column.
The Owls played a five-game series against Anna Maria College in Northborough, Mass. over the weekend and lost the first four games before using a 22-hit attack in a 22-10 victory March 19.
UMPI’s offense came alive as the team earned its first win of the season. The Owls led throughout, but Anna Maria stayed within striking distance throughout much of the game. UMPI scored seven times in the seventh and five times in the ninth to take control.
The top six batters in the Owls’ lineup all collected three hits, and every starter had at least one. Martin Egan led the way with a 3-for-5 performance, including five RBI, a double and two runs scored. Matt Curry also sent 3 for 5, hitting two doubles, scoring twice, and driving in four runs. Ryan Sanderson also had a pair of doubles.
Angel Morales picked up the first pitching win of his career, going 3-1/3 innings in relief.
The Owls kick off their spring break trip by playing Norwich University on a neutral site on Sunday, March 26. That doubleheader will take place at Husson University in Bangor and start at 11 a.m.
