“I love living in Aroostook County, and I want to be a part of making it a place where other people will love living in, too,” said Kaitlyn Parady, 2016 Gauvin Scholar.
Parady is a 2016 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and attends Northern Maine Community College, majoring in liberal studies. Once finished with her general education classes, Parady plans on furthering her education in either psychology or social work to pursue her passion of helping people in Aroostook County.
“Staying in Aroostook County is important to me, because The County is home,” she said. “This area has so much potential, and so much room to grow. I think it’s important for people to stay here and try to bring The County to its full potential.”
Parady enjoys working with children, helping others, and being involved in church activities. She encourages students to apply for the Gauvin Scholarship because of the welcoming atmosphere she’s experienced during her time as a scholar.
“Students should apply to be a Gauvin Scholar because they will be introduced to caring and accepting people that will do everything they can to help them succeed,” said Parady. “Being a Gauvin Scholar has been beneficial to me because it has opened up so many opportunities for me.”
Aroostook Aspirations Initiative’s executive director, Kristen Wells, said it’s motivating to see Gauvin Scholars encouraging students to apply, especially since their motivation comes from positive experiences with the program.
“We have a results-proven program and our scholars know that we care and are committed to their success. It’s great to hear them talk about their experience as a Gauvin Scholar,” said Wells. “It can be very personal. Gauvin Scholars lead the next class of graduating high school seniors by example as they persist in their college pursuits despite the challenges they face.”
