Jackson, Bartley and Coffin compete over weekend

CHITTENDEN, Vt. — Three local skiers had the opportunity to face off against the top skiers in New England and New York in the New England Nordic Ski Association Eastern High School Cross Country Championships, held March 17-19 at Mountain Top Ski Resort.

Juniors Isabelle Jackson and Max Bartley, both of Presque Isle and representing the Outdoor Sports Institute team, and Caribou High School senior Bryce Coffin were all part of Team Maine and made the trek to Vermont for the competition.

The three had qualified at the Maine Team Selection Race held March 5 at Black Mountain in Rumford.

Out of 100 competitors, Jackson placed 40th in the five-kilometer girls’ freestyle race in 16 minutes and 57.6 seconds. She was 66th in the 7.5K classic race in 28:04.8 and 49th in the 1.2K spring in 3:18.73.

The 4×2.5K mixed relay team she was on came in 17th in 2:44.6.

In a field of 113 racers, Bartley was 70th in the 5K freestyle event in 14:36.2, 68th in the 7.5K classic in 22:50.7 and 60th in the 1.2K sprint in 2:44.17. His mixed relay team placed 34th in 24:18.3.

Coffin came in 102nd in freestyle (15:51), 93rd in classical (23:58.6) and 97th in the sprint (2:54.17). His relay team came in 45th in 25:30.1.

Team Maine placed fourth overall out of five teams.
