CARIBOU, ME — The National Weather Service Office in Caribou has issued a winter weather advisory which will remain in effect until 10 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

The advisory includes the northeastern and southeastern Aroostook County communities of Presque Isle, Caribou, Van Buren, Mars Hill, Millinocket, East Millinocket, Patten, Medway, Houlton, Hodgdon, Sherman and Smyrna Mills, as well as the following other locations: Lincoln, Howland, Springfield, Calais, Grand Lake Stream, Wesley, Perry, Princeton, Danforth, Vanceboro and Topsfield.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected through this evening. Strong winds will lead to blowing snow, reduced visibility for motorists and possible power outages, said the advisory.

Temperatures will fall from the 20s and lower 30s towards the single digits this evening.

Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will produce bitter wind chills, which could produce frostbite with prolonged exposure.

Visibility is expected to be below a quarter-mile with localized whiteouts. Motorists should use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.
