Veteran deputy retires from Sheriff’s Office

HOULTON, Maine — A longtime deputy from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office who performed numerous tasks and did “every one of them with a smile,” according to the sheriff, was lauded during her recent retirement party.

Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Kris Miller of Ludlow said goodbye to friends, colleagues and a large group of active and retired sheriff’s office employees 27 years after she first stepped through the doors of the facility into the position of corrections officer.

Program offers Narcan at tribal clinics to address overdoses

HOULTON, Maine — The problem of opioid abuse has impacted residents statewide, resulting in an increase in overdoses across the state, including Maine’s five Native American tribes, according to the head of a nonprofit prescription drug abuse prevention program.

The statewide increase in overdoses is why the tribes were targeted by Diversion Alert and the Husson School of Pharmacy as part of a new initiative called Wabanaki Pathway to Hope and Healing, which includes Take Home Naloxone programs in each of the five tribal clinics in the state.

Houlton man indicted of kidnapping, terrorizing

HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton man charged with kidnapping in March after allegedly holding the woman he was in a relationship with captive for several hours has been indicted on numerous related charges.

Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins released the results last Tuesday of the grand jury indictments handed down on June 9.
