Geary will be tried as an adult

HOULTON, Maine — A local teenager accused of killing a 61-year-old Houlton man last year can be prosecuted as an adult, a District Court judge has ruled.

Samuel Geary was 16 and his co-defendant, Reginald Dobbins, was 18 when the two allegedly stabbed and brutally beat Keith Suitter to death on March 1, 2015.

Both have been charged with murder in connection with the death of Suitter at his home at 412 Hillview Ave.

Memorial Building closes for repairs

HOULTON, Maine — Officials at the Gentle Memorial Building have closed the gym and recreation facility for the next month to allow for some much needed repairs.

Marie Carmichael, recreation program director for the town, said Thursday that the facility, which closed on Saturday, will remain closed until about June 8, 2016 so that Buildings Etcetera, a Houlton-based firm, can fix substantial damage to a block wall at the building.

Easton native trains over County in Canadian aircraft

HOULTON, Maine Residents of Aroostook and Penobscot counties were delighted last week when an Easton native flew over the area in a Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 and did several “touch and go” maneuvers at local airports.
The plane, piloted by U.S. Air Force Maj. Matthew Osgood, who currently is an exchange pilot at Trenton Air Force Base in Ontario, Canada, touched down at airports in Presque Isle, Houlton and Bangor during training exercises on Thursday, April 21.

HOULTON, Maine — Inside his modest room at the Gardiner Healthcare Facility in Houlton recently, James Brown Sr.’s aged fingers traced a laminated map of the world.

The 94-year-old talked vividly of the countries he had visited as he did so, running his fingers along the curved coast of Okinawa, next to the blue waters that engulfed Pearl Harbor, and around the circular Attu Island.
