Man charged with kidnapping called ‘public threat’

 HOULTON, Maine — A local man charged with kidnapping last week allegedly held a woman captive for several hours before police battered down the door to his home to free her.

Dushko Venelinov Vulchev, 39, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Bulgaria, faces two felony charges — kidnapping and theft by unauthorized taking — as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic violence assault, obstructing the report of a crime and domestic violence terrorizing.

HOULTON, Maine — Three years ago, Houlton High School student Kate Newman saw a need in the community to bring hot meals to senior citizens or the less fortunate in southern Aroostook, especially during the colder months.

The president of the Crafty Critters 4-H club sprang into action, and with the help of friends and family, has spent the ensuing years feeding more than 200 people.
