Owl volleyball team makes NAC final four

One would expect a matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 teams to be closely contested and that was certainly the case on Wednesday in the Class B North girls’ quarterfinal pitting Caribou against Medomak Valley.
It was a disappointing end to an otherwise magical season for the Caribou boys’ soccer team.
The team takes on Washington Academy on Wednesday.
Presque Isle (13-1-2) will play the winner of Monday’s other semifinal between No. 2 Hermon and No. 3 Winslow.
Ashland, now 13-2-1, will next meet up against No. 1 and undefeated Central Aroostook (15-0-1) Wednesday in Mars Hill in the regional finals.
Hunter Wardwell scored the tie-breaking goal unassisted six minutes into the second half, and Bryan Anthony added the clincher off a Ben Thomas assist with 4:28 left as the top-ranked Central Aroostook Panthers defeated No. 4 Madawaska Friday afternoon, 3-1, in a Class D North semifinal matchup between two teams very familiar with each other.
Following an 11-day layoff between games, the defending Class D North regional champion Ashland girls’ soccer team would have been excused for showing a little rust during their quarterfinal match against Fort Fairfield on Friday.
Going against a strong wind in the first half provided a stiff test for the Presque Isle Wildcats’ defense Thursday in the Class B North quarterfinal matchup played at home against Brewer.
Having to wait an extra day for their first playoff game — and being forced to compete at a different venue than their home field — did not seem to rattle the top-seeded Central Aroostook girls.
