Countering Boko Haram

In 2014, the terrorist group Boko Haram shocked the world by kidnapping 276 Nigerian schoolgirls, sending them into lives of sexual slavery and forced “marriages.” That horrific act was part of a nearly decade-long campaign of brutal violence by the extremist organization against the people of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Niger in West and Central Africa.

Well, by the time you read this, you have probably already broken or bent your 2017 New Year’s resolutions. We all have such great intentions — lose weight, move more, be nicer to those around us. Whatever your particular issue, we all know that in the coming year we are going to do something better, or stop doing something that may be harmful, like the peanut-butter-and-jelly-stuffed French toast for breakfast, or maybe just take more time with friends and family.

National Weather Service discourages travel during tonight’s storm

CARIBOU, Maine — The forecast for tonight’s storm has not significantly changed from this morning, and the National Weather Service in Caribou urges Aroostook County residents to stay off the roads until the heavy snow passes tomorrow.

Earlier today, National Weather Service forecaster Richard Norton said that a deviation in the storm’s projected path could result in freezing rain.
