Children’s Theatre to hold auditions

HOULTON, Maine — Auditions for “Jungle Book,” this year’s spring production of Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre, will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, from 2:45-5 p.m., at First Baptist Church on Court Street, Houlton.

The play, directed by Erin Kafferlin, is open to children grades three through six. Rehearsals will begin in January, and are tentatively planned for Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3-4:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church.

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department responded to the following incidents from Sunday, Nov. 20 to Saturday, Nov. 26.

 

Sunday, Nov. 20

1:05 p.m. — Officer Quint responded to Charles Street to investigate a burglary.

3:23 p.m. — Officer Quint responded to North Street where he summoned a 44-year-old New Brunswick woman for theft by deception.

HOULTON — The Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton responded to 133 calls for service during the week of Nov. 21-27:

 

Monday, November 21

– Troopers from Troop F responded to 42 accidents/vehicles off the road this week due to a couple of small storms that traveled through the area. Roadways became snow covered and slippery resulting in a large number of accidents and wrecker calls for vehicles that skidded off the road.

Health issues don’t hinder Hodgdon hunter

HODGDON, Maine — Clinton Roy has had a few health setbacks over 20 years or so, his daughter, Christine Roy, will tell you.

He’d already been battling diabetes when, in 2011, he had a heart attack that nearly killed him.

“He underwent open heart surgery,” said Christine Roy, who lives in Milo. “It was supposed to be a four-hour surgery. It was 14. He ended up having a stroke during surgery and went into a coma. Seven days later, he awoke.”

Young skaters in the Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association had a busy time on the ice during Thanksgiving weekend.

Yorks of Houlton Atoms played a home game Saturday with a loss to Victoria/Tobique; a scrimmage at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon and another at home Sunday afternoon were hard played losses.

ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Women’s Bowling League at the Birch Point Bowling Lanes was intense Nov. 22, 2016 as squads got in some last minute competition before heading into the Thanksgiving break.
