Bank, United Way join forces in food drive

HOULTON, Maine — Aroostook County branches of Katahdin Trust are playing host to the kick off for the United Way of Aroostook’s first-ever Pantry Project. The goal for United Way is to collect more than 2,500 pounds of food between now and the end of June, which will provide more than 12,000 meals.

Katahdin Trust kicked off the initiative on Nov. 1 and will run it through Nov. 18 to coincide with their annual United Way of Aroostook workplace campaign.

PRESQUE ISLE — A keynote address by the CEO of the Maine Development Foundation, along with a review of economic development in Aroostook County, are on tap for the Aroostook Partnership’s annual meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Edmunds Conference Center at Northern Maine Community College.

Oakfield Seniors

Twenty-three members of the Oakfield Senior Citizens met at the Smoki-Haulers Snowmobile Club in Oakfield on Nov. 2, 2016.

An extra special potluck luncheon was enjoyed by all. After a short business meeting, with all the usual reports being read and accepted, guest speaker Christine McPherson from the Agency on Aging spoke about her duties as the new RSVP coordinator for Southern Aroostook.

Happy Losers

On Nov. 2, 2016, the first Wednesday of the month, the weight group called The Happy Losers held their weekly meeting at the United Baptist Church vestry in Island Falls.

The leader, Jackie Pratt, opened the meeting and welcomed members, followed by the pledge and roll call.

Nine members weighed in and attended the meeting. Riva Hawkes was the loser of the week, and Brenda Raymond was the runner-up. Great job, ladies.

We’re in the month of November with election, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. We’ll be busy.

When the election is over, so will the hang-ups, solicitations, ads and so much more. Whoopie!

Margaret Drew is on vacation for a week, visiting family in Massachusetts and other areas.

Sherman Seniors

On Nov. 2, 2016, the Sherman Area Seniors had their meeting and potluck lunch.

The food was very good and everyone enjoyed it. The group said the Lord’s Prayer and pledge to the flag. All played Bingo and everyone had a wonderful time.

I have several friends who are successfully losing weight. On purpose. For these girls I have included a recipe for a pumpkin pie as a treat for their football games or just a sweet with a “cheat” feel. You look great Ladies! Have a great week and hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween!

1/2 cup skim milk
