Houlton Rotarians greet District Governor Joles

HOULTON, Maine — The featured guest at the Houlton Rotary Club’s weekly meeting Oct. 24, was District Governor Virginia Joles of Presque Isle. Houlton is a member of Rotary District 7810 that Joles represents.

During the “happy dollar” part of the luncheon Joles reported that she had met with the board members before the luncheon and her response to what the club is doing was to label Houlton’s Rotary a “five-star club”. The club is doing so much and doing it well.

TARR — A boy, Keegan Charles Tarr, born on Oct. 21, 2016, to Adam Tarr and Linda Chase-Smith of Patten.

Happy Losers

On Oct. 26, the last Wednesday of the month, the Happy Losers held their weekly meeting at the United Baptist Church vestry in Island Falls.

Jackie Pratt, the leader, opened the meeting and welcomed members, followed by the pledge and roll call.

Eight members weighed in and attended the meeting. Joan Sides was the loser of the week, and Jackie Pratt was the runner-up. Great job, ladies.

TOPS

The Houlton chapter of TOPS met Friday, Oct. 28, with 9 TOPS and 4 KOPS members present for the weekly meeting.

The losers of the week were Jeanne Merritt and Pam Richardson. The runner-up was Bessie Wyman, and Bessie won the incentive basket. Jeanne Merritt won the skinny dish.

Diane Folsom gave the secretary’s report.

Initiative would aid RSU 29

To the editor:

It is with great excitement that I encourage you to vote ”Yes” on citizen’s initiative No. 2, “An Act To Establish The Fund to Advance Public Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education.” The passage of this question will enact real and lasting funding of public education in our state, allowing countless schools to provide fair learning opportunities for all students.
