Long offers respected voice in Senate

To the editor:

I am a former State Representative having spent eight years in the Maine State Legislature. Through four of these eight years Rep. Ricky Long was my seatmate and I got to know him very well. Of the 151 Representatives I can tell you that none were better respected than Rep. Ricky Long.

Rep. Long did not speak often on the floor of the House but when he did speak legislators listened well and took him seriously. No other Representative represented his constituents so faithfully and consistently. By his actions and words, one could easily tell that he knew the problems, the issues and concerns of the working person.

How I’m voting this time

To the editor:

Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly (my yearbook quote from 1973!).

I dream of:

1. America great and free again

2. Originalist Judges to the Supreme Court of the United States and Lower Courts

Vote your conscience

To the editor:

For those of you who don’t see a presidential candidate that represents your values for America, one who is without hatred or anger or power hungry, then consider voting for the independent candidate Evan McMullin and his running mate Mindy Finn. They still remember what our Founding Fathers wanted for this country: pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, for state’s rights and a strong national defense.

Strong in the Senate

To the editor:

Last week I attended a public candidate forum, a fine civic event sponsored by the Presque Isle High School social studies department. The staff and students are to be commended.

During the event, I heard presentations by Aroostook’s two Democratic senate candidates, Troy Jackson (District 1), an Allagash logger, former legislative leader, and fighter for labor and working families, and Mike Carpenter, (District 2), Houlton lawyer, small business owner, and former State Attorney General. Each spoke eloquently with passion and pride of their County roots and dreams for returning prosperity.

Richardson serves well as Registar of Deeds

To the editor:

I am writing to discuss the support of Melissa Richardson in her quest to continue as Registrar of Deeds for Southern Aroostook County.

Melissa is currently serving as the appointed Registrar of Deeds and is well reversed in the managerial aspects of running the office, meeting the public and overseeing three employees.

Houlton has lost a great leader

To the editor:

This is a story about a man most of us knew and respected, a man that worked tirelessly for the citizens of Houlton, a man that gave thousands of his hours on numerous committees to make Houlton a better place to live, a man who did much more for Houlton, a man we all know as former councilor Phil Bernaiche.

Supports ranked choice voting

To the editor:

Last week, I took advantage of early voting and cast my “Yes” vote on Question 5, supporting election reform in the State of Maine through Ranked Choice Voting. In a current political climate comparable to the melodrama of the Jerry Springer show, Ranked Choice Voting will encourage integrity and common decency to our process of electing state leaders.

Ranked choice strengthens process

To the editor:

Once again, Maine is in the position of providing important leadership to the nation by voting “Yes” on Question 5 and approving “Ranked Choice Voting” on November 8. We support Question 5 and we hope you will join with us in casting a “Yes” vote.
