Happy Losers

On Oct. 12, the weight group called The Happy Losers held their weekly meeting at the United Baptist Church vestry in Island Falls.

Jackie Pratt, the leader, opened the meeting and welcomed members, followed by the pledge and roll call.

Loretta Bouchard was the loser of the week, and Lois Green was the runner-up. Great job, ladies.

Purple Hat Ladies

The October meeting of the Purple Hat Ladies was held at The Taste of China in Houlton on Oct. 11.

Three of the brave ladies wore their Halloween outfits. After a vote was taken the group decided Mildred Gagnon won the prize for best costume.

Catholic Women

The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Oct. 3 for their monthly meeting. President Sue Hardy called the meeting to order.

Members recited opening prayers. Vice President Jane Stile read the minutes from the September meeting. Treasurer Mary Grant gave her report.

Corresponding Secretary Alta Reardon read a thank-you letter from Faith Formation for the donation to buy flowers for Confirmation and First Communion. Janet Barker gave an update on the rummage sale, which was to be held Oct. 6, 7 and 8.

Sherman Area Seniors

On Oct. 12, the seniors went out to lunch to Grammy’s in Linneus.

The food was very good and a grand time was had by all.

The trees were in full color; the scenery was wonderful.
