Viking hoop squads get ready for Saturday road trip

     The Caribou Vikings’ basketball teams make the trip down to Lincoln Saturday, with the girls playing at 1:30 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m. against the Mattanawcoook Academy Lynx.

$7 million rescue package sought for Maine Military Authority

     LIMESTONE, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage’s administration is requesting to use $7 million of the state’s General Fund surplus to help the Maine Military Authority recover from an underbid contract to refurbish Massachusetts transit buses.

The request for the $7 million is aimed at giving the Maine Military Authority the capital needed to complete the bus contract with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, continue work on smaller contracts and garner future business, said Brig. Gen. Douglas Farnham, commissioner of the Maine Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management, during a meeting Wednesday of the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs.

     The Caribou Nordic ski teams continued their dominance in competitions held within Aroostook County as the girls and boys each claimed team victories at a sprint event held Jan. 18 at Caribou High School.

Snow Run returns for 33rd year

      HOULTON, Maine — Katahdin Trust is once again partnering with the town of Houlton and the Aroostook Musterds running club to sponsor the 33rd annual Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run.

     This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, during Moosestompers Weekend.
