Snowdogs have busy season ahead

     Another Special Olympics Snowdogs’ basketball season has arrived and coach Brian Hamel said the team is off to a great start.

Boys win, lose one

     The Caribou boys’ eighth-grade basketball team split a pair of games last week, topping Presque Isle last Wednesday and falling to Houlton Friday.

Snowmobile Trail Report

     Wow, what a week and a half this has been for all projects from Island Falls to the Allagash and everyone in between.

     The County clubs have certainly been busy clearing all the trees that have fallen from some of the heaviest snow that has ever come down. A lot of the clubs are reporting very good progress, while there are some that will need another week of cutting before their sections are at 100 percent. So please use caution when out riding as not every club has had a chance to put up signage — they were dealing with getting the trails opened to allow groomers to get through.

Local ski center opens Dec. 26

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Winter activity enthusiasts have been given their own special gift this year with the recent snowfall amounts. More good news is afoot with Presque Isle’s Quoggy Jo Ski Center opening for the season on Monday, Dec. 26.

Board OKs bike trail, food waste probe

     CARIBOU — The executive board of Northern Maine Development Commission has given the green light to two projects seeking funding, one which looks to reduce food waste in the region and another that would identify a federally designated bicycle route from Bangor to the St. John Valley.
