Unprecedented — Twenty inches of snow fell, which makes now over four feet of snow on the ground, an amount unprecedented in the history of our town at this time of year. We trust we shall not be visited by many such storms the coming season, although they bespeak a plentiful harvest another summer.
Valuable logs — It is reported that there are logs valued at about $80,000 in the St. John River. On account of low water, it was impossible to get the logs down the river. It will be quite a loss to the owners.
Biomedical research is changing lives and changing the world. During my time in the Senate, I have made it a priority to visit labs, equipment manufacturers, and educational institutions — here in Maine and across the country — that are on the cutting-edge of science and technological innovation. Recently, a Maine resident with ties to the University of Pennsylvania invited me to tour a research lab there and to speak with scientists who are conducting exciting studies of the human brain that may one day lead to a cure or effective treatments for devastating diseases like Alzheimer’s.

When did it become OK to treat our veterans like common criminals? Between the quarterly scheduled meetings with a nurse, counting of pills and random urinalysis, I am beginning to wonder if the 13 years of honorable service means anything at all to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Group marks 40th anniversary with concert
CARIBOU, Maine — The 60-voice Caribou Choral Society will present its annual Christmas concerts starting this Sunday in Madawaska, with performances next weekend in Presque Isle and Caribou.
