Help for caregivers

To the editor:

     I recently participated in a tele-town hall hosted by AARP Maine on behalf of family caregivers across the state. 1,200 Maine residents participated during the hour-long discussion. Our goal? To raise awareness about the needs of caregivers and to start to examine the supports and services Maine caregivers need in their own communities.

Maine court rejects Emera deal but sidesteps energy market conflicts

     PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s top court struck down a joint venture among Emera Maine’s parent company and two power generators in a ruling Thursday that leaves open many questions about financial relationships between companies that supply power and those that transmit and distribute it.

     Sold — The handsome residence property of Hon. Louis C. Stearns, on High Street, was sold to Jas. H. Glenn, the hardware merchant, by the Hall Co.

     Snowstorm! — No lack of snow for the sleighing since the last storm, which deposited about 12 inches of the beautiful. The snow commenced falling Sunday night and continued until Monday night.

Bishop Robert P. Deeley appoints vicar for priests in Maine

     PORTLAND, Maine — Bishop Robert P. Deeley has appointed Fr. Normand E. Carpentier as the new vicar for priests for the Diocese of Portland, effective immediately. Carpentier succeeds Fr. Paul A. Plante, who died June 30, 2016.

ACA honors Collins for cancer advocacy

     WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award on Sept. 13, the most prestigious honor bestowed by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in recognition of her dedication to increased cancer research funding, removing barriers to colorectal cancer screening and improved patient quality of life.
