PRESQUE ISLE — A partnership between the Presque Isle Rotary Club and Aroostook Huskies Football will bring a new football field on U.S. Route 1 midway between Presque Isle and Caribou one step closer to reality.

115 Years Ago —Nov. 13, 1901
Early snowfall — A full foot of snow fell Sunday night and Monday. No lack of snow for sleighing since the last storm which deposited about 12 inches of “the beautiful.”
On November 11, 1919, which was actually the first anniversary of the end of World War I, Armistice Day was born. The name was eventually changed to Veterans Day and became a recognized national holiday in 1938. Understandably, there is often confusion between Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but the two are quite different.

As Veterans’ Day approaches you may be wondering if your ancestors served in the military or fought in any of this nation’s wars. This topic is too massive to cover in just one column so I’ll dedicate this one to colonial wars and the American Revolution, the wars of the 17th and 18th centuries.
