Viking girls have perfect week

 

Boys halt winless streak; first in 11 matches

     The Caribou girls kept up their winning ways and the Viking boys won for the first time in 11 matches in varsity soccer action last week.

Time to become dedicated to ducks

     October in Aroostook offers a kaleidoscope of fall colors. That special aroma of field and forest during harvest time and no less than four open gamebird seasons, it’s a sportsman’s paradise. The bulk of wildfowl enthusiasts ride the woods roads or traipse the trails in search of partridge, while another fair-size group hopscotches from field to pasture to pond attempting to decoy Canada geese within scattergun range. A still smaller but very elite faction of wingshooters joins forces with keen-nosed four-legged hunting companions to flush Maine’s smallest, often most elusive feathered flyer, the woodcock.’

Tribes receive funds to combat violence

     U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced Oct. 5 that the Wabanaki Women’s Coalition received a total of $336,976 from the Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.

Players offer musical trip

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Community Players and the University of Maine at Presque Isle will present a musical revue of “Those Oldies But Goodies” on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15 and Oct. 21 and 22, at the Auditorium at Wieden Hall on the UMPI campus.
