     SACO, Maine — Aroostook County contestants won three of eight titles in the seventh annual Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant and Green Carpet Fundraiser, held Aug. 7 in Garland Auditorium at Saco’s Thornton Academy.

     AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s newest state troopers have been told to become part of their communities and that they will see the best and worst of people during their careers. That advice came from the chief of the State Police, Col. Robert Williams, as he administered the oath of office to eight new troopers Friday.   

 Williams said, “Troopers need to become part of our communities.  The person we give a ticket to on Monday may be sitting beside us at a ballgame on Thursday, so always treat people with respect and dignity.”

     WADE, Maine — A local woman joined more than 700 cancer patients, survivors, volunteers and staff from all 50 states and nearly every congressional district in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 13 as part of the annual American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. 

Mother urges research for a cure

     CARIBOU, Maine — An Aroostook County mother who has seen her young son struggle for three years with a rare type of bone cancer is holding out for hope – not only for her son but for all children who battle terrible diseases.
