To the editor:

     On the afternoon of September 1, 2016, I delivered to the Presque Isle offices of the Democratic and Republican parties, multiple copies of A Covenant for Civil Discourse. The Covenant is part of a larger resource document prepared for churches and clergy by the Maine Council of Churches.

Funding will aid violence victims

     WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced Sept. 6, 2016 that three Maine organizations serving five counties will receive a total of $1,695,084 over three years to support legal services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Electronics recycling event makes comeback

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Due to popular demand, The Aroostook Medical Center will once again offer the opportunity to bring used, broken and unwanted electronic devices for proper disposal, free of charge, this fall. In addition, the medical center will collect no-longer-needed medical equipment to donate to Partners for World Health.

Cary Auxiliary plans inaugural Walk for Hope

    CARIBOU, Maine — The Cary Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary will host the inaugural annual Walk for Hope on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 beginning at the hospital’s Chan Center. All proceeds from the Walk will benefit “Brian’s Ride” to assist patients receiving cancer treatment at the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center.

Caribou gears up for inaugural marathon

     September in Aroostook County means it’s harvest time. While most folks will be busy picking potatoes, the city of Caribou will hold its first marathon. If everything goes according to plan the event might just become a new tradition.
