Setting the record straight

     To the editor:

This letter is in regard to the chip seal issue at Solar Slopes. As one of the two developers of Solar Slopes subdivision, I take issue with counselor Shane McDougall’s comment that, “the road was not originally built correctly, and that the substructure of the roads should be the main issue.”

A natural treasure in our neighborhood

To the editor:

Thanks to Aislinn Sarnacki for reminding us in the Aug. 19 BDN 1-Minute Hike about the treasure so near to me: the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Limestone. I drove over to walk the Don Lima trail, which was featured in the 1-Minute Hike. I observed a horned owl, which was well camouflaged, sitting on a dead tree.

The working women of World War II

     To the editor:

American Rosie the Riveter Association is trying to locate women who worked on the homefront during World War II. Thousands of women worked to support the war effort as riveters, welders, electricians, inspectors in plants, sewing clothing and parachutes for the military, ordnance workers, rolling bandages, clerical, farming, and many other jobs such as volunteer workers collecting scrap metals and other critical materials. These women have stories of their WWII experiences that are of historical value and perhaps have never been told. American Rosie the Riveter Association would like to acknowledge these women with a certificate and have their stories placed in our Archives.

Antique tractor club leaving its mark

Members share love of farming equipment from bygone days

At 8 miles an hour, traveling 40 miles would take roughly five hours. Not a speed most people would choose but last Sunday, at least 21 people signed up to do just that for what has become the Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club’s annual Tractor Trek fundraiser.
