Obama signs order creating monument

     President Barack Obama signed into law the creation of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument on Wednesday, Aug. 24 beginning a new chapter in the history of a region in Maine that had been dominated by the forest products industry for more than a century.

Vikings, Eagles impressive in opening matches

    The Caribou soccer teams made it look easy Friday when they began regular season play.

The Vikings trampled over the Madawaska Owls in both boys’ and girls action played at Caribou High School. The boys gained a 7-0 victory behind three goals and two assists by senior Andre Rossignol and three goals off the foot of freshman Parker Deprey, while the girls prevailed by an 8-1 margin thanks to Searra Herbert’s four goals and two more by Maddie Doucette.
