Caribou plays first golf season matches

     The Viking golf team opened its season by hosting a pair of matches, one played in Mars Hill and the other at Caribou Country Club.

     On Friday, Old Town and John Bapst made the trip north to compete against the Vikings at Mars Hill Country Club. Caribou posted 225 strokes to finish below Old Town (185) and ahead on John Bapst (241).

XC season begins for local squads

     The Caribou Vikings’ cross country teams were in action for the first time Saturday as part of an exhibition meet held in Hermon and the event was a success.

     The pee wee program if for boys and girls entering grades 2 and 3 this fall and the youth program if for boys and girls enter grades 4-6.

Fall fly fishing options abound

     Yep, fall is here. August is fast winding down and September signals harvest and hunting. A lot of outdoor folk have already forsaken fishing rods for firearms and headed out to the target range or skeet and trap fields to prepare. There’s the first moose season, native goose gunning and of course bear season for most of the month, and a few adventurous sportsmen are preparing to travel south for the fall turkey season. Many zones are open for bow and arrow or shotgun allowing a hen or Tom, and a few zones allow two big birds.
