Trips planned

     Adults 18 year of age and older are eligible to participate in the following trips: a kayaking outing Aug. 27, 2016 with a fee of $10 which covers transportation, use of a kayak, PFDs and paddles; and Kings Landing Aug. 30, with a fee of $50 that includes a $20 meal voucher and transportation.

Challenge returns for 28th year

     The 28th annual Rene Cloukey Charity Challenge Golf Tournament was held at the Limestone Country Club on July 23 and 24, 2016 at Long Lake Country Club. The tournament featured four nine-hole scrambles that included 220 golfers. Through the years, Cloukey has directed the tournament with much success and support by area businesses and participants.

Program helps families avoid substance abuse

Services combine drug education, parenting

     AUGUSTA, Maine — With more than 60 percent of the children coming into the state’s protective custody due to parental substance abuse as a risk factor, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has launched an innovative pilot program designed to support vulnerable and at-risk families by co-locating parenting education and substance abuse services. Houlton is the only site in Aroostook County offering these services.

Group plans first autism conference

Event offers resources for families

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Family members, educators and professionals who live and work with autistic individuals will soon have the opportunity to gain valuable resources and greater understanding of the individuals we aim to support thanks to the grassroots efforts of the Aroostook Autism Support Group. The first Aroostook County Autism Conference will take place on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
