CARIBOU, Maine — The Friday Night Karting Series at Spud Speedway continued Aug. 19, 2016 and Damian Theriault of Caribou kept his winning streak alive in the Senior Champs division.
Trips planned
Adults 18 year of age and older are eligible to participate in the following trips: a kayaking outing Aug. 27, 2016 with a fee of $10 which covers transportation, use of a kayak, PFDs and paddles; and Kings Landing Aug. 30, with a fee of $50 that includes a $20 meal voucher and transportation.

MARS HILL, Maine — Another Mars Hill Mountain Challenge has been completed and a Caribou woman picked up a victory in her division.
ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The Upper St. John Valley Senior Golf Association met for a tournament at Va Jo Wa Golf Club Aug. 17, 2016.
The 28th annual Rene Cloukey Charity Challenge Golf Tournament was held at the Limestone Country Club on July 23 and 24, 2016 at Long Lake Country Club. The tournament featured four nine-hole scrambles that included 220 golfers. Through the years, Cloukey has directed the tournament with much success and support by area businesses and participants.
Services combine drug education, parenting
AUGUSTA, Maine — With more than 60 percent of the children coming into the state’s protective custody due to parental substance abuse as a risk factor, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has launched an innovative pilot program designed to support vulnerable and at-risk families by co-locating parenting education and substance abuse services. Houlton is the only site in Aroostook County offering these services.
