Captain Ketchum speaker at BPW meeting — Capt. Paul F. Ketchum, Protestant chaplain at the local air base, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s Club held at the home of Edna Cook, president.

75 Years Ago –  Nov. 22, 1945
Halloran named manager — The Produce Dealers Supply Company announced that William Halloran was appointed manager of their Presque Isle office and warehouse. This company had been serving Aroostook County potato dealers and shippers for over thirty years.

75 Years Ago –  Nov. 15, 1945
Boy Scouts hold second annual meeting — The second annual meeting of Central District, Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America was held at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle. A roast chicken dinner preceded the meeting and was served in the Banquet Hall. Reverend Nelson Canfield of Fort Fairfield presided as chairman.

December potato prices steady — The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that support prices on 1945 late-crop Irish potatoes did not increase for the remainder of the marketing season ending June 1946, over the support prices set for the month of December.

75 Years Ago –  Oct. 25, 1945
Mapleton man enrolled at University in England — Sergeant Clifford H. Keirstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar R. Keirstead of Mapleton, and a former student of both the Universities of Maine and Maryland, enrolled at Shrivenham American University in England where the second two-month term opened Oct. 8 with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students.

Northeast Airlines announced a new record — Northeast Airlines passenger totals for the previous four days were the highest for a four day period in the company’s 12 year history, it was announced by President Paul F. Collins.

State wage board announced a two cent ceiling increase — Col. Wilson R. Buie, director of Labor, U.S. Department of Agriculture, authorized effective Oct. 9, an increase of two cents per barrel in the picking Wage Ceiling.

Farm Labor aids County — The Farm Labor Program, which was sponsored by the Extension Service, had brought into Aroostook County about 7,300 workers to assist in the potato harvest.

75 Years Ago –  Sept. 20, 1945
Air Medal — F. Joseph Crock, aviation radioman, second class, USNR, of Presque Isle, received the Air Medal for “distinguishing himself by meritorious acts in serial flight.” The award, made by Vice Admiral D. E. Barbery, USN, was presented by Rear Admiral Frank D. Wagner, Commander, Aircraft, 7th Fleet.
