Voter turnout was steady Tuesday in Houlton, according to Town Clerk Khylee Wampler.
City council members said five people have applied for the position in the week and a half since it was posted with Municipal Resources Inc. Previous city manager Martin Puckett resigned from his position after 11 years to take a job as executive director at the Central Aroostook Association, which helps people with disabilities.
Long-time school board member Susan McLaughlin is seeking her third three-year term. Incumbent Michelle L. Henderson, elected to a one-year term in 2022, is seeking a three-year term in this year’s election. Write-in candidates Gary Lovell and Richard Tarr are competing for the remaining three-year seat.
Among other items on the ballot, Fort Fairfield residents will elect a new member of the town council on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 7. Robert Kilcollins, Shane McGillan and Chris Perkins are running for one open seat on the council.
Three candidates are vying for three open Houlton Town Council Seats.
Deputy Mayor Courtney Boma is this year’s incumbent, running for another three-year term. Tamara Lovewell and Jennifer Kelley are also running for three-year terms to replace outgoing councilors Lou Willey and Mark Goughan.
Caribou’s municipal elections will be held November 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Caribou Wellness & Recreation Center at 55 Bennett Drive.
Candidates James Caroll and Hank King seek to replace outgoing city council chairperson Jacob Shaw and city council member Mike Chasse.
Incumbent Jan Umphrey-Tompkins and newcomer Louella Willey are both running for three-year terms.
