As the owners of Took a Leap Farm, my husband and are known for taking big leaps — and in early 2016, we took one of our biggest with the purchase of The Vault Restaurant in downtown Houlton. This leap was enabled by the Affordable Care Act, through which we have been able to receive the medical care and prescription medication we require for our pre-existing conditions. Without the security afforded by this program, I would not have been able to leave my corporate job to pursue the entrepreneurial path of a small business owner.

The impact of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the so-called alternative to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be devastating for older Americans.
Well, it seems as if M. Nature read my last column, which told of the exceptional, late-in-season sub-zero day of March 8, 2007 and said, “Tell you what, I’ll do you one better.”
Most genealogists know that historic newspapers can help in their research. Most hope to locate a birth, marriage, or death record and are disappointed that many local papers didn’t carry much in the way of genealogical information.

I’ve had first-hand experience about how prevalent scams are and want to share some of the steps I have taken to keep my information, and my money, safe from scammers.
