Aroostook Skies: The path to Pluto

Like you, I saw the first images from New Horizons with the same sense of fascination and curiosity as earlier publicized links between humanity and the cosmos. I mean, we continued to wait since August, 1989 to see the chain of discovery fulfilled in our solar system. When Voyager 2 left Earth in 1977, the original mission did not include Pluto on the spacecraft itinerary. Voyager’s planetary parade ended with Neptune.

As we all know, most folks from our neck of the woods are not too keen on those stiflingly muggy days, where you feel like all of the energy has just been drained right out of you.

Reunions

Plans are well underway for our family reunion in July. We designated a small committee to organize things and send out invitations. I was surprised that all but six went out electronically, either thru Facebook or email. Things have certainly changed since the last big one. We also set up a free family reunion website through Weebly.com and I have started filling Shutterfly.com with family photos from the last 140 years.

Cup O’ Joe: July 4th officially heralds in summertime fun

With the coming of the Fourth of July next weekend, summer has officially arrived, even if the weather has yet to figure this out. Starting Thursday, the 2015 Houlton Agricultural Fair kicks off a four-day stint at Houlton Community Park, while Midnight Madness returns to downtown Houlton Friday, July 3.
