Recently (January 2), The County experienced a significant bout of snow showers and snow squalls, along with areas of blowing snow which caused brief whiteouts. Conditions across Aroostook County varied tremendously over very short distances. West Chapman saw 4 1/2 inches of fluff, while just a short distance away there was only a dusting.
When I first moved back home several years ago it became my weekly habit to spend Saturday mornings in Houlton doing errands, hanging out at Carol’s yarn shop for a bit, and inevitably stopping at Sadie’s Bakery for a doughnut. It was through that Saturday doughnut that I got to know Tim and Sharon O’Donnell.
The whirlwind that is the holiday season has once again come and gone. Each year, the holidays seem to come earlier and earlier, and yet it still seems to be over all so quickly. All the buildup, all the rushing around and all the stress of shopping seem to go by in the blink of an eye.
I have spent many years gathering bits and pieces of my family’s history because I love the search, and I love the fascinating facts and stories I have found. When I consider the bulk of it (which I rarely do), I am amazed at what I have collected, and the many forms in which my treasures have appeared.
Bangor just recorded the snowiest November on record with a monthly total of nearly 26 inches. That beats the previous record set back in 1962. All that snow is a welcome sign for our economy.
