At Christmas time we think of the birth of Jesus Christ.
We hear about the Bethlehem Story re-told in many ways, but what we easily forget at this time of year is the real reason that this baby came to us in the first place.
Holiday traditions. Every one has them. Some are simple little things like making sugar cookies, lighting a menorah, putting up a tree or sending cards to family and friends. Some are more elaborate and involve creating living nativity scenes or assembling the greatest collection of holiday lights imaginable to put outside your home.

I don’t really understand why some people cannot enjoy genealogy, but I know those people exist. I guess maybe it’s a little like Santa Claus, you just have to believe. You have to believe that the answers are out there, and, further, you have to believe the answers matter. I KNOW they matter to me, and boy do I believe!
Hello everyone again! I’m back from New Hampshire, where I attended the wedding of my granddaughter, Victoria Downing, to Cameron Murphy. It was a beautiful wedding, everyone was all dressed up, high heels, short and long dresses, hair styles different, and I had a reading at the nuptial Mass. I will never see the likes of this caliber in my lifetime again. Congratulations to the newlyweds and may they have a long and happy life.

In this season of giving, our thoughts turn to those who have given us the most precious gift of all: our freedom. We Mainers can be proud that an inspiring and generous expression of America’s gratitude began right here in our state.
I’m a firm believer of the adage, ”If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” As a kid I wrote my letter to Santa every December and for the most part the Jolly Old Elf left a lot of my gift list under the tree. All these years later I still compile a wish list every holiday season for family and friends; some items I need, others I just want.

Experiencing the joy of the season through the eyes of children is a wondrous thing. For kids, there is no more magical time of the year, as the days until Christmas arrive seem to drag painfully slow. No other time of year can you ask a child the date and have them give a succinct answer without hesitation.
