Recently, after posting to my professional Facebook page that light snow was occurring over a portion of The County, a couple of people replied, “Light Snow?! It’s really been coming down here!” Then I asked them how much they had had. “Oh, about a half inch”, they said.
With the remnants of the first big winter storm of the season still gracing the ground, many people, it seems, have been hard to resist the urge to dive into full Christmas mode. Take a casual drive some evening, and you will likely see a number of homes already decked out for the holidays.
I have noticed, in my years as a meteorologist, that when a winter storm is in the forecast, folks tend to over-focus on how much is expected, while not fully considering the storm’s other hazards, which include possible white-outs, dangerous cold, and getting stuck without a winter survival kit!
Over my years of family research, I have come to respect and admire the genealogical work of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), which they offer up to the world quite freely, if not entirely free. Both the church and its members have done more, to my mind, to advance the field than any other organization.
