When you remember past holiday seasons, what makes you laugh?
While most holiday celebrations include memories of loved ones no longer here, there is always laughter that echoes through the years.
It seems every year about this time I think of times long ago when our lack of technology and the slower pace of life seemed to draw us closer to the true Christmas spirit.
Harrison H. Robinson was born on Aug. 11, 1840, at The Ledge, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada, and came to the United States the next year. At the end of 1861, Harrison enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War, serving in the 15th Regiment Maine Infantry. He mustered out in 1866 having reached the rank of Sergeant.
Recently our Library Board of Trustees purchased the Griffiths House, an historic home located at 228 State St. It is situated beside our library and abuts the library property.
The holiday season is upon us, and for family historians and genealogists it can be a great time to find clues you may have missed in the Christmas rush each year. Many of us have forgotten things that can help us learn more about our families. Let’s examine some possibilities.
I think many of us may need to slow down, take a look around, and decide what’s really important. Is it the big gift? The big tree? Or maybe it’s the family that we surround ourselves with or the friends we have made our family. Enjoy the food, enjoy the friends and enjoy your family. Enjoy the Season.

A summer Saturday can be interesting. Does one know what a horse is? It’s easy to see a horse. It’s got two small ears, a tail, four legs and a round belly. It can be ridden or pull a sulky. And they can have opinions that do not suffer foolish types.
It has been a tradition for the president of the United States to light a national Christmas tree beginning in 1923 with President Calvin Coolidge. One year, that tree came from northern Maine and created many “firsts” for the tree program.
