Election draws large voter turnout in Caribou

In the past, off-year referendum elections have drawn around 1,200 voters, Caribou City Clerk Danielle Brissette said. Just before 4 p.m., 1,100 people had already voted, she said.

Van Buren sees lower than average voter turnout

Van Buren Town Clerk Jessica Cyr said on Tuesday that turnout had been pretty slow compared to previous years. She said that usually voter traffic picks up between noon and 1 p.m., and then again from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., but at 12:30 there were not as many people showing up compared to past years.

Houlton police chief appointed interim town manager

On Monday night, Chief Tim DeLuca was unanimously appointed interim town manager by the Houlton Town Council. He will stay in the role until a permanent town manager is hired. Although the interim role cannot exceed six months, according to the council.

Aroostook sheriff wants charges dismissed in Mars Hill hostage shooting lawsuit

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office says a Mars Hill woman waited too long to claim excessive force when she was shot while being held hostage. Lena Gerber filed suit in August with U.S. District Court in Bangor against the sheriff’s office, Deputy Isaac Ward and her former attorney, Jeffery Pickering, arising from the fatal shooting of Jacob Wood on April 14, 2021.
