Aroostook’s own national Christmas tree

It has been a tradition for the president of the United States to light a national Christmas tree beginning in 1923 with President Calvin Coolidge. One year, that tree came from northern Maine and created many “firsts” for the tree program.

A difficult goodbye

His soft ivory curls were wrapped around my finger as I examined every part of his body with cloudy eyes, my free hand stroking his shoulders as I told him, for probably the millionth time during his 12 years on earth, that I loved him. Best of luck to our senator

To the editor:
We may be very fortunate to have a smart up-and-coming young politician in our city of Presque Isle trying to get a better handle on our utility charges.  I hope it can be figured out that most of it comes from greed that probably cannot be controlled, as it is at the present time.

Allen Crane Tibbetts Wilson was born in Bangor, Maine on March 23, 1866.  He was one of five children and, after marriage, had five of his own.

Colonial ancestry

In my last column I discussed the differences between the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Pilgrims of Plymouth. Millions of Americans descend from these Protestant settlers and quite often have ancestors from both colonies. You probably do if your ancestors were here in New England in the 17th or 18th century.
