Button, button…

Have you ever stopped to really think about your buttons? Such a seemingly simple thing, right? After all, isn’t a button merely a small knob or disc used to fasten clothing? For most of us, it probably never crosses our minds until one falls off our shirt or coat.

Finding smarter renewable energy

Versant Power filed a request with the Maine Public Utilities Commission to increase their distribution and transmission rates beginning next summer. The rate case filed on Oct. 3 seeks an increase of about 32 percent, which would affect ratepayers by about 10 percent since only half of your bill is attributable to delivery costs.

To the editor:
Yes, I voted on Nov. 8 at the Presque Isle Sargent Family Community Center.
It was a cold, windy fall day, but lots of people were turning out to vote.

In support of internet for all

To the editor:
Too many communities like mine still have pockets without any access to broadband infrastructure. Thankfully, we have an incredible opportunity to finally make sure every Mainer has access to broadband thanks to significant federal investments and the leadership of Governor [Janet] Mills, who has made universal access and digital equity in Maine a priority.

Demonologist story was not responsible journalism

To the editor:
 I’m writing to protest the biased reporting of your November 2 article “A demonologist is coming to Aroostook to banish a curse.” It is irresponsible journalism to write about the notion of possession from a purely religious perspective, without mentioning the scientific consensus that there is no evidence that demons exist.

Treasures are for today

She looked through the tangle of necklaces carefully, not quite sure if she wanted to wear the colorful plastic pearls or sterling silver chains that clung dutifully to tarnished baubles of all shapes and sizes. She asked herself once again why she had stored these pieces of jewelry in her dresser drawers.
