Miss Jordyn will give small businesses a voice

To the editor:
Our community depends on small businesses, but right now business owners in rural Maine are having a hard time with staffing due to the shortage of qualified workers. Jordyn Rossignol doesn’t just understand these challenges — she lives them. That is why she is running to represent us in the Maine House of Representatives.

Jackson has this diehard Republican’s support

To the editor:
Two years ago, my family ran into an issue with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection at our Long Lake lot. A couple of things did not add up, so I contacted a number of elected officials, including Troy Jackson, hoping someone could help sort this out.

Fienberg’s voice is needed

To the editor:
State Senate District 2 covers a large, rural portion of Aroostook and Penobscot counties. We’re facing unprecedented challenges: higher costs, scarce resources, overwhelming infrastructure needs, and a political machine that would just as soon have us all fighting each other, rather than working to help us to get things done.

Having your head examined

Have you ever heard of phrenology?  Phrenology originated in the latter parts of the 18th century due to a scientific theory by Viennese neuro-anatomist and physician Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828).  Gall put forth five basic principles of his theory.

Attention parents

To the editor:
During COVID, states with Democratic governors kept their states shut down for longer, saying they were following Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Other Republican-led states, like Florida and South Dakota, hardly shut down at all. Weknow now how harmful these shutdowns were to the children who couldn’t attend schools in person for well over a year.

Kevin for Maine

To the editor:
Kevin Freeman is the strongest candidate to represent Aroostook in the Maine House of Representatives, District 5. He is the one with the deepest understanding of important problems facing Aroostook County and Maine, and he has the experience and know-how to achieve best solutions.

Vote for the rational

To the editor:
As we approach the election on Nov. 8, we must take seriously Republicans’ expressed desire to end or drastically curtail Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, support for Ukraine, environmental regulation, worker rights and voter rights, to name just a few issues.

Jury names

If you have an ancestor in colonial New England, you may discover that ancestor served on a jury. Serving on juries was considered the duty of all free men in a town. Women didn’t vote or serve in public offices at that time.

Choose Fienberg for Senate

To the editor:
I am writing in support of Danielle Fienberg for the Maine State Senate.  Granted, she has an uphill battle against Aroostook royalty, as personified by her opponent.  They represent two very different attitudes toward what The County needs.

Media aren’t preparing voters

To the editor:
Election day is less than a month away.  Our local media, print and television, are doing an abysmal job of providing voters with the information necessary to cast an informed vote. I haven’t seen any candidate profiles, coverage of policy positions or sponsoring of debates.
