Supporting council candidates

To the editor:
Jody Smith cast the tie-breaking vote to place on a future local ballot whether Caribou would expend up to $10 million for a new police department building. While questions of this sort should always go to the voters and taxpayers, this is putting the cart before the horse.

Candidates earn writer’s support

To the editor:
There are two seats open on the city council this election. Lately I have had several people ask me who they should vote for, and my answer to them is that I would rather tell them who I intend to vote for.

Protect the right to food

To the editor:
We are farmers and have been farming organically in Aroostook County for 45 years.  We will be voting yes on Question 3, the “Right to Food” constitutional amendment and we hope you will vote yes as well.

I recently attended a webinar given by the new Maine State Archivist Katherine McBrien.  It was terrific, highly informative of what’s happening at the archives and what’s being planned.

October Conservation Corner, 2021

My garden is large enough that I am able to rotate vegetables and a cover crop each year. For the past several years, I have experimented with different kinds of cover crop mixes and generally throw some tried and true seeds together, broadcast with a hand spinner, rake them in, and hope for the best. And the best is what I got this year.

What you need to know for Election Day

General elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2.  Presque Isle residents who desire to vote in person may do so at the Sargent Family Community Center on Chapman Street from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.

Preventing nursing home closures and protecting patients’ access to care

The COVID pandemic has taken an enormous toll on our health care providers, particularly long-term care facilities and rural hospitals.  Four Maine nursing homes announced in September that they would be shutting their doors, displacing more than 100 residents, and many other long-term care facilities are struggling to stay open.

We are coming upon Election Day, and along with your regular referendum ballot, you will find a separate paper ballot asking a question concerning the construction of a new City of Caribou police station. This is a non-binding, simple survey — a yes or no question.

City landmark transformed

To the editor:
Have you visited Presque Isle’s Mantle Lake Park this summer?  The changes are very noticeable and I’ve never seen it look better.
