To the editor:
The media showed and interviewed the huge faction of Iraqis having taken refuge in Michigan partying and celebrating the hanging of Saddam. It is a sure bet that such celebrations were happening beyond Michigan.
It was very disgusting for me to know and to see so many young faces with able bodied appearances being here in America rather than being home, celebrating in Iraq and helping to defend their country like I did for mine years ago.
When these young men arrived from Iraq, they should have been sent directly to boot camp for eight weeks for the same training I got, then sent back home to do what a real patriot would do.
The true patriots are still in Iraq and the deserting cowards are here letting the American boys and girls and their fellow countrymen do their dirty work. Only by being selfish that they might be here while the possibility of relatives and friends of theirs are being killed. Will we be able to depend on these deserters whenever America becomes in need or will they flee yet to another country again? I never trusted those so-called Americans that fled to Canada during the 1960s . . . did you?
I would have more respect for these people if seen waiting in line at the various military recruiting offices.
My greatest respect and regard goes to those answering the need. This picture of celebration is again a duplicate of the people in Kuwait that we were shown of their night life, partying while our boys were being shot at and my son dodging ground-to-air missiles.
It is amazing and beyond comprehension how Washington has manage to fool and dupe enough of us Americans to fight for their whims and personal gains. There is a name for a person who lets others take advantage of them and it starts with an S. The word is not sheep.
Saddam was hung justifiably for his crimes but nothing is said with all the evidence against our leaders, that we Americans were misled in killing thousands of Iraqis and Americans.
It seems the impeachment process, if not war crime trials, should have been started even before Saddam’s trial. What is it about this invasion that invalidates the implementation of either process?
Yes, let us support our troops, but I find it hard to support the Bush Administration and further respect those young Iraqis. If you meet one, ask him why he is not in Iraq fighting for his country and for what he believes in. To defend one’s country is a mode of paying back all those who made the sacrifice before us for what we have and enjoy.
